Overview

  • Assam Small Farmers’ Agri-Business Consortium (ASFAC) came into existence on 1st October, 2001 and after being notified by the Govt. of Assam vide No. AGA.153/99/107 dtd. 01-10-2001. It was subsequently registered under Societies Registration Act, 1860 (Act XXI of 1860) on 24th December, 2001.

    Considering the enormous potentiality of horticulture in North Eastern States of India, the Govt of India launched the scheme "Technology Mission for Integrated Dev. of Horticulture in N.E. States (now HMNEH)" during 2001-02 to develop this sector in a mission mode manner.

    With regard to routing of funds, it was decided that the funds for the aforesaid scheme would be routed through Small Farmers’ Agri-Business Consortium (SFAC), New Delhi since SFAC had been notified as Implementing Agency at National level for the scheme which in turn would make onwards release of funds to concerned agencies/state level SFAC of the states concerned. Subsequently at state level, State SFAC units were also constituted as a funding agencies to receive funds from the Central SFAC which in turn make onwards release of funds to different SFAC as per rules and schematic guidelines.

    Accordingly, Assam unit of SFAC was constituted briefly named as "Assam Small Farmers’ Agri-Business Consortium (ASFAC)" which was registered under Societies Registration Act, 1860 (Act XXI of 1860) on 24th Dec 2001 with nine member Board of Management under Chairmanship of Agriculture Production Commissioner, Govt of Assam and the office is presently located in the premises of Directorate of Agriculture campus, Khanapara, Guwahati-22, Assam.
